Location: Fort Purbrook, Hampshire
I went to Fort Purbrook as an amateur ghost hunter, eager for a night of paranormal discovery, and the experience overall did not disappoint. Situated on the South Downs, this old military fort has a history steeped in tales of strange sounds, sudden chills, and shadowy figures that linger in the corners. Armed with some basic equipment, a few cat balls, my trusty night vision camcorder , and an open mind, I was ready to see if the stories were true!
The Night Begins with a String of Orbs
The evening began with a promising sign: an unmistakable string orb which appeared almost immediately (at location C) . Seeing orbs always adds a certain thrill, as they’re often considered to be manifestations of spirit energy, though sceptics argue otherwise. Yet, these weren’t just ordinary specs of dust or light reflections; they were distinct and organized in a vertical line, almost as if they were deliberately trying to make themselves seen.
What caught my attention, though, was their interaction with the cat balls I had set up around the room. I watched as the orbs approached the cat balls, swirling near them. But curiously, the cat balls didn’t light up. It was as if the energy behind these orbs was somehow just shy of making full contact, unable or unwilling to cross that line.
Making Contact: Jenny from Seville
As the night continued, I reached out for any spirits willing to communicate. I soon felt the presence of an entity, introducing herself as "Jenny." According to the communication we received, Jenny was originally from Seville, Spain. She came to the UK at 21, settling here until her death at 30. Her presence felt warm and calm, yet there was something subtly off, something that didn’t fully add up.
We continued to communicate, and as the session unfolded, I couldn’t shake the feeling that "Jenny" might be a ruse. There was a sort of deception behind the calm; it was as though a different energy had taken on her guise to lure us into a false sense of security. It wasn’t a malevolent force, but there was an unsettling element of manipulation, a quiet whisper of unease - others in the group agreed.
Table Tipping and More Activity
One of the highlights of the night was trying out table tipping, a classic method of spirit communication that I was excited to experience again first-hand. The table didn’t disappoint; we saw it shift slightly as though responding to questions or commands, though it never quite tipped over dramatically. It was a subtle motion, more like a gentle sway, as if whatever energy was behind it was testing the waters or reluctant to expend too much energy.
There was also a distinct feeling in the air, a thickness, a kind of buzzing energy that seemed to envelop the room. Even though we were seeing and experiencing evidence, it was as if everything was slightly muted, like the spirits were struggling to maintain a connection. Despite the ups and downs, there was undeniable potential here for gathering solid evidence.
Energy Collapse at 2:00 AM
By about 2:00 AM, the energy in the building took a drastic downturn. The buzzing sensation I’d felt earlier dissipated, replaced by a sense of emptiness. It was as though someone had flipped a switch, and suddenly, all activity came to a grinding halt. The orbs disappeared, the tables settled, and the air became still. It was an almost eerie silence, emphasizing how abruptly everything can fade on an investigation.
Reflecting on the night, it’s tempting to speculate why the energy collapsed. Perhaps it was the spirits’ way of retreating or conserving their energy, or maybe the veil between our world and theirs had briefly thinned before closing again. It’s always a bit of a mystery with these investigations as you never really know what to expect, and every experience leaves you wanting to dig deeper.
Looking Ahead: Fort Purbrook Has More Secrets to Reveal
Overall, the night held a lot of promise. There was plenty of activity and potential to gather more concrete evidence, even if it all seemed to evaporate by the end. Fort Purbrook definitely has secrets waiting to be uncovered, and I can’t help but feel there’s more to discover if I just scratch the surface a little harder.
Next time, I plan to return with additional equipment, maybe an EMF meter or even an EVP recorder, to see if we can capture more substantial interactions. The fort still holds a certain allure, with its stone walls and mysterious passageways, and I feel there’s more beneath the surface that’s yet to reveal itself. Fort Purbrook may have held back a little on this visit, but I’m convinced there are deeper connections to be made and more spirits to meet.
The journey continues, and with each investigation, I get a little closer to finding answers, even if they only lead to more questions. Fort Purbrook, I’ll be back!
